Historic Hillsborough Neighborhood Tour

Each year, the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce assists with the planning of the Historic Hillsborough Neighborhood Tour.
Previous tours have featured a miniature train ride through Historic Hillsborough's neighborhoods, with stops along the way to enjoy decorated yards & porches, live entertainment, exhibits, and a visit with Santa. The event is held on the second Saturday of December.

2016 Tour Highlights Included...

Train narrated rides departed from Town Hall Campus every 20 minutes, with stops scattered throughout the downtown area.

At the Burwell School, visitors enjoyed the Dickens Exhibit and the Hillsborough Garden Club's decorations, along with live performances, including a flautist group and colonial vignettes.

The Orange County Historical Museum hosted the Orange County Schools Holiday Art Exhibit.

On Tryon and Wake Streets, several of Hillsborough's beautiful historic homes had their porches and yards decorated, courtesy of area businesses. Neighbors competed for prizes for their favorite charities. Visitors were able to vote for their favorite home on the train, and follow up with an online vote, too.

At the Masonic Lodge, visitors found entries for the Gingerbread House Contest and an interactive colonial dance demonstration inside, as well as a colonial food demonstration on the lawn.

The Old Courthouse featured live performances and living history demonstrations throughout the day.

The tour finished at the Alexander Dickson House, home of the Hillsborough Visitor's Center, where you could take a "Selfie with Santa".

Carriage Rides were available departing from the Visitors Center. Riders enjoyed a neighborhood tour and had access to all tour entertainment.

Historic homeowners are asked to complete the following survey if they are interested in featuring their home on the 2017 Historic Hillsborough Neighborhood Tour.
